Al Rashid Racing and Global Equine Group had their first runner in Argentina today, as El Piru contested the 5 furlong qualifier race for the Copa Bullrich. El Piru was one of the only unraced 2 year olds in the race, and was lining up against a number of maiden winners and Group placed horses for his first outing. Showing his greenness, he broke slowly, but was soon up with the pace, as Pablo Falero tracked the favourite, Marote Cat, a Group 2 placed colt, tried to push the pace. Coming inside the final furlong, it was a two horse race, and it appeared that El Piru was going to get the better of the contest, taking a 1/2 length lead inside the final 100m. Unfortunately, his inexperience showed again as Marote Cat fought back, surprising El Piru, to win the race on the line. Based on this performance, El Piru is certainly one to watch for the future though.
