| Audemar showed his strength in the competitive feature race at Kempton tonight. Running over a mile in a Class 3 Handicap, this was the first race back after a 3 month break. Audemar broke well and was settled against the rail, tracking the leaders. Pulling keenly in the early phases of the race, Jamie had to take a check several times, losing ground and position, with Audemar dropping back to 6th by the midway stage, turning into the straight, Den's Gift, the front running horse made a break and went 3 lengths clear of the following pack, with Audemar unable to respond due to being boxed in on the rail. Finally a opening appeared and Audemar accelerated through the gap and chased down the leader. In the final 100 yards Audemar showed his depth of character and forced himself past Den's Gift to win by a head on the line. A tough race, won by a tough horse, and a perfect present for one of his owners, Owen Hargreaves, on his birthday. |
